A huge thank you to Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers and everyone who attended this morning's debut presentation of Map, Trap, and Zap. Great questions and interaction, sorry we didn't get to everything on the agenda, but check back here often to get filled in.
To start with, some promised links...
Black Obelisk Software, the makers of Momentum Writer and Liquid Story Binder BlackObeliskSoftware.com
Scrivener for Windows LiteratureAndLatte.com/scrivenerforwindows
Creative Whack Pack in the Apple iTunes App Store. Thanks to RMFW Writer of the Year Robin D. Owens for the tip.
I'm looking into other requested information and will be back to you soon.
Next up, Douglas County Writers Conference, October 8.

Love to write AWAY from your desk?
I sure do, and when I find a tool that
can make it easier I'll write about it here.

Blogging on the Run?
The weblog (blog) has become an important tool for writers of every ilk and genre. It allows one to experiment, network, publicize, and connect -- with anything from a few snippets of thought to a monograph on seventeenth-century Polish erotica.
And then, of course, there are tools within tools. I'm creating the post from the comfort of a recliner at about five in the morning (MDT), using -- excuse me, a spider just crawled on my foot -- an iPad app called BlogPress.
Mobile blogging provides a number of challenges -- see my friend Victoria Dixon's creative solution on her blog. From smart phones, the biggest is probably a size thing. Both screen and keyboard are tiny. Tablets have more real estate to work with but often don't play well with the wysiwyg editors on most blog software. This is where the power of BlogPress comes into play.
It supports eleven popular blogging/content platforms (see illustration) with a standard user interface that supports images and limited HTML, with the ability to post an article on multiple platforms simultaneously. It can automatically send Twitter and Facebook notifications on publication.
I'm using it on Blogger (where you're currently reading), WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Live Journal.
I must admit that I haven't looked beyond the Blogger app for Android devices. With the tiny keyboard, I won't be doing much phone blogging.
The BlogPress app is available at the Apple iTunes AppStore via your computer or device.

Sneak Preview: Index Card iPad App
Index Card™ is an iPad app from DenVog in California. Since it is not setup to use the original iPad's VGA port, I won't be projecting it during Mapping, Trapping, and Zapping presentations. However, I will discuss it, along with other card based programs.
A more detailed discussion is coming up on this blog.
Index Card is available through the iTunes AppStore on your device or computer.

Ready for a Big Getaway?
Sometimes it just feels like you're chained to your desk. Literally surrounded by what it takes to put words on paper, or on a screen, or whatever the heck the next decade has in store for us.
Let's take a look:
How about if one or two simple, inexpensive (maybe even free) goodies for your laptop/netbook/iPad could shatter those chains!
The Map Trap and Zap Blog serves to provide a treasure trove of details, background, and updates in support of my Mapping, Trapping, and Zapping workshop. Check the sidebar for more details!
Seeya soon,
Ron

Let's take a look:
- Character bible - you've got to remember all those tiny details. Not only your main characters, but all the other denizens who pop up within your pages. You know the drill. Eye color, hair color, ear color, car model, likes, dislikes and fetishes....
- At least one thesaurus and a dictionary - more if you're writing historical fiction, a techno-thriller, a legal yarn, or peppering your dialog with phrases from a foreign country, like Manhattan or Southern California.
- Sketches of the world you've created, creatures, weapons, the logo for a new brand of soda.
- Zillions of little details on sticky-notes - pasted on the walls, closet doors, floor, ceiling, monitor screen, and the back of your underwear drawer.
